A commitment to cancer care led SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital and SLUCare to establish a Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation Program in 1990 Since the program’s inception, SLUCare specialists in hematology and oncology have performed hundreds of allogeneic and autologous bone marrow transplants.
Now, our specialists at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital can offer you a new option for those cancer treatments – the only Outpatient Bone Marrow Transplant Center in the region, allowing some cancer patients the ability to return home during treatment rather than face a lengthy inpatient hospital stay.
The Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) program is aimed at long-term remission or the cure of the patient’s disease. Our program also provides an elevated standard of care that involves expert medical staff support, patient education and state-of-the-art technology. Conditions We Treat
SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital with SLUCare physicians perform BMTs for the following diagnoses:
- AML, ALL, CML and CLL; MDS; Myelofibrosis and myeloproliferative disorders
- Multiple myeloma / amyloidosis, severe aplastic anemia
- Hodgkin’s Disease, NHL
- Testicular cancer
- Renal cell, selected brain tumors and sarcomas
Autologous, allogeneic and syngeneic transplants are offered at Saint Louis University Hospital.
Types of allogeneic BMTs offered are:
- Haploidentical
- Related: HLA (human leukocyte antigen) matched and mismatched
- Unrelated: HLA matched and mismatched
- Umbilical Cord Blood:
- Single and double
- HLA matched and mismatched
We offer preparative regimens, including:
- Myeloablative
- Nonmyeloablative
- Reduced intensity
